Therapy Services

The Occupational Therapy service includes individual and group based therapy/intervention.
In hospital – Upon admission, an initial assessment of the client, development of individual and group therapy goals, discharge planning and follow up support.

Functional Assessments

In-depth assessment of the client’s cognitive/physical abilities using standardized and activity based assessments. It focuses on the client’s ability to work/carry out his/her occupation.

Cognitive Assessments

Focuses specifically on assessing the client’s cognitive abilities by using standardized and activity based assessments in order to assess the impact that the client’s cognitive skills have on his/her day to day functioning.

Vocational rehabilitation

  • Case Management: Includes work hardening programmes to prepare the client for returning to work as well as liaising with different stakeholders involved in the client’s return to work.
  • Work Visits & Home Visits: Varies depending on client diagnosis.

Standardised Assessments We Use

  • CAM: Cognitive Assessment of Minnesota: Assesses significant areas of cognition
  • RBANS: Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status Update is a brief standardized screening tool.
  • LOTCA: Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment is an in-depth assessment of basic cognitive abilities.
  • WASP: Workplace Analysis Scheme for Proficiency can be used to assess a client’s general work skills or occupation-specific skills based on ability and speed (productivity) profiles.
  • Sensory Matrix: Assessing how the client’s brain processes sensory information/messages and how this impacts functioning.
  • PGAP: Progressive Goal Attainment Program – The goal of the program is to help patients recover by incrementally increasing their activity.
  • DTVP2: Developmental Test of Visual Perception
  • DTVPA: Developmental Test of Visual Perception – Adolescent and Adult – designed to measure visual-perception and visual-motor abilities in individuals ages 11-0 through 79-11.
  • Psych FCE: A functional capacity evaluation is designed to be safe and to provide impartial information about an injury or illness. The tests that are part of an FCE will evaluate a worker’s: Range of motion. Physical strength. Lifting ability.

Group Therapy Services

General/Wellness/Adolescent

Focuses on learning coping strategies to help manage the effect of symptoms of illness on the client’s life and to assist the client in engaging in meaningful activities/roles.

Dual Diagnosis

Focuses on learning constructive coping strategies and alternative approaches to manage depression, anxiety/pain/other aspects of clients’ lives instead of resorting to substances as a coping mechanism.

Assisted/Functional therapy

This programme is for clients who are in the “pre-group therapy” phase/not appropriate for group therapy. Therapy can be focused on e.g.:
  • Cognitive stimulation
  • Basic social skills/interaction
  • Orientation
  • Improving insides by understanding mental illness

Therapy programme for involuntary clients

This programme focuses on providing treatment to clients who need individualised input.
Activity based therapy can assist with the following:
  • Organising thoughts
  • Orientation to person, place/time
  • Reality orientation
  • Personal hygiene/care
  • Containment of emotions
